Calcium + Vitamin D Speeds Weight Loss

Calcium and vitamin D may be important for weight loss and weight maintenance.  These nutrients are important for controlling appetite, metabolic rate and fat cell function.  A Massachusetts General Hospital study found that calcium and vitamin D supplements (350 mg of calcium and 100 international units IU of vitamin D daily for 16 weeks) decreased abdominal obesity without affecting bodyweight.  Low-fat dairy foods are rich in calcium , vitamin D, and proteins and are important in a well-balanced diet - regardless of their effect on weight loss.
